The UBD Spectacle 2016 Art and Design Graduation Show is officially launched today in a grand event held at the Chancellor Hall UBD. The Spectacle is an art and design show held by the graduating Art and Creative Technology students of UBD. It is to expose and showcase the skills of these students. The Spectacle covers topic ranging from personal to broader issues. Each of them carries different meanings behind their artwork and it is interesting to see how each artist execute them.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Joyce Teo Siew Yean, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Global Affairs, the VIPs, parents and friends of the student artists are the first to view the exhibition.
The UBD Spectacle 2016 is open to all members of the public with free admission until the 21st May from 9am to 7pm every Monday to Thursday and Saturday. There will also be gallery talks by the student artists on the 16th, 19th, 23rd and 26th of April from 2pm until 4:30pm. This is the chance for the public to interact with the artists themselves and get to know more about their artworks.
The main objective of this art exhibition is to show the public that contemporary art, may it be traditional art such as paintings and sculptures or digital art like graphic design play such an important role in our lives. It is a form of appreciation and respect for culture, life and even the environment. An exhibition builds a conducive community where both the audience and artist share an exchange of thoughts and ideas amongst one another. Art takes people on a journey of self-awareness and self-understanding and this is what the Spectacle want to share with the public.
There will also be the coffee bean voucher and food coupons giveaways. They will also be selling their very own Spectacle T-shirts to the public and giving out some of them to lucky winners. More information and updates will be available on the event social media pages, UBD Spectacle 2016 on Facebook and @ubdspectacle2016 on Instagram.
