Dr. Faizah Haji Metali

Assistant Professor

Faculty of Science

About
Faizah Metali obtained her BSc Education (Honours) degree with Biology Major from Universiti Brunei Darussalam in 2002.  She received an MSc with Distinction in Plant Conservation (with Seed Banking) from University of Sussex in 2005 and a PhD in Plant and Soil Sciences from University of Aberdeen in 2011. Faizah joined UBD in 2003 as a Tutor and was appointed as a lecturer in May 2005. As part of her PhD study, she focuses on investigating the factors (phylogenetic and ecological determinants) affecting and controlling variation in foliar elemental concentrations, in particular foliar Al concentrations, among and within tropical plant species. The approach adopted in her study combines cross-species phylogenetic analyses of existing and newly-collected data, studies of plants and their soil chemical environments in Brunei Darussalam and experimental studies of the effect of Al application on growth responses and nutrient uptake in an Al-accumulating plant species.
