Media Production Services
Video
The Centre staff can assist with shooting and
editing basic educational video productions. Currently S-VHS
and VHS editing facilities are used. Examples include:
- Recording segments of laboratory demonstrations, seminars
and guest lectures
- Removing unwanted sections of a pre-recorded video tape
- Transfer of 16mm film and 35mm slides to video tape (subject
to copyright restrictions)
The Centre also has a high quality Betacam SP
video production system which includes cameras, editing facilities
and computer generated graphics capability. The full range of
studio and location shooting can be undertaken with the new system
to Broadcast quality.
Audio
Centre staff are available to assist in the
production of basic audio tape programmes. This includes:
- Recording of speech, sound effects and music
- Removing unwanted noise and speech from pre-recorded tapes
- Production of sound tracks for tape-slide presentations
- Synchronising of tapes for slide-tape presentations
ETC plans to upgrade the audio production system
in the near future to allow for the production of technically
sophisticated programs which, for instance, can be used for broadcasting.
Multimedia
ETC have hardware and software for the production
of educational multi media materials. This includes a Macintosh
and Pentium-based DOS computers.
Photography
A complete campus photographic service using
35mm film for prints and slides is available at ETC:
- location photography
- group and portrait photography in a fully equipped studio
- close-up photography
- B&W and colour film processing
- slide duplication
- computer-generated presentation slides
- reproduction photography - diagrams and illustrations to
photographic prints and slides, photographic prints to slides
A full range of colour and black and white film
stock is also available on request for teaching and research
purposes.
Video and audio tape duplication
Multiple copies of audio cassette tapes can
be duplicated on request, subject to copyright restrictions.
Multiple copies VHS and S-VHS video cassette
tapes can be duplicated, subject to copyright.
Access facilities
Educational media production room
The educational media production room, located
on the ground floor of the Centre, has facilities, equipment
and materials accessible to UBD staff and students:
- OHP transparencies for hand-drawing or photocopiers, OHP
pens
- Graphics materials such as poster-size paper and marker
pens
- Mounting and laminating of photographs and posters
- Photocopiers - colour and black and white
- Blank tapes - VHS video and audio tapes
- Viewing facilities for VHS video tapes and photographic
slides
- Listening facilities for audio cassette tape
