Academic/Professional Qualifications:
B.A C.Acc. Hons (U.K), MBA (U.K). Islamic Banking and Finance

 

Graduated from University of Kent in Centerbury, UK with a B.A. in Accounting (Hons). Worked as a Senior Auditor with the then Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (Accountant & Auditor firm) for 5 years.

Served in Standard Chartered Bank for 11 years, 3 years as Head of Operations, Corporate Banking. Sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank to undertake a Postgraduate course in Retail of Banking Products with the Management Institute of Singapore and followed by Masters in Business Administration in Henley Management College, England.

Currently a Senior Lecturer with University of Brunei Darussalam in subjects related to Islamic banking and finance as well as Islamic Business Ethics. Also held non-academic positions in the university such as Head of Department of Business and Management and Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies.

 

Current non-academic post is as Coordinator of the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management under the umbrella of the University. The Centre is a newly established Centre for Islamic Economics, Management, Banking and Finance. She has published a book and has presented several papers including a paper at an International conference on Islamic Banking and Finance organized by Islamic Development Bank (IDB) – IRTI, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

  • Islamic Banking in Brunei and the Role of CIBFM – presented in a conference held in Universiti Brunei Darussalam in January 2004.

  • Ethical Investment Fund – Bridging the gap between Islamic and Private Fund – presented in 2005 Asian Venture Forum – South East Asia (Malaysia) held in Kuala Lumpur in Septemeber 2005.

  • Risk Measurement from a Downside Perspective: Cases of Islamic and Equity Funds – with Dr Abul Hassan and presented in a conference “2nd International Research Conference on Islamic Banking – Risk Management, Regulation and Supervision” in Kuala Lumpur in February 2006.

  • Developing a regional ASEAN Islamic capital market: Challenges and Opportunites – Brunei Darussalam perspective. Organised by Asean Bankers and COFIT, Empire Hotel, Brunei, May 2006.

  • Corporate Social Performance of Islamic Institutional Shareholding Companies of FTSE Islamic Index – with Dr Abul Hasan and presented at the 4th International Islamic Banking & Finance Conference 2006, at Monash University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2006.
