On 15th September 2007, the first intake of students undertaking the Master in Islamic Banking and Finance (MIBF) programme undertook exploratory studies under the supervision of Dr. Saad Al-Harran (saadsattar@cibfm.ubd.edu.bn), Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Islamic Banking and Finance (CIBFM), Universiti Brunei Darussalam in analyzing the potentiality of Islamic Microfinancing in the Handicraft Industry, in the Tutong District within Brunei Darussalam.
Islamic Microfinance Project is an optional course in the Master programme offered by the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management. Acknowledging that there are currently limited applications of Islamic microfinance instruments in Brunei Darussalam, this applied course encourages students to appreciate and explore opportunities where Islamic financial instruments can be applied to real life situations, notably in micro-businesses.
