CIBFM’s Islamic Finance talk at Brunei Accenture Group Networks As part of CIBFM’s continuous drive to enhance the public’s knowledge on Islamic banking and finance, Dr Radi El-Bdour and Ak Hj Md Hasnol Pg Hj Md Salleh recently provided a community-service talk to employees of Brunei Accenture Group (BAG) Networks, specifically on riba and the concepts used in Islamic finance. The presentation undertaken on 14 November 2007, at the BAG office, Ministry of Finance building lasted for about 2 hours, an hour more than intended. The extended length of time reflects a heightened interest by the public towards further understanding, what exactly is Islamic banking and how Islamic banking is different from ‘conventional’ banking.

For instance, in the previous UBD Open Day held in February, prospective students and the general public inquired on Islamic banking and also showed interest in the Master Programme in Islamic Banking and Finance, offered by CIBFM.

Given the interest, it was hardly surprising that the talk at BAG Networks lasted two hours as a fair amount of the time was spent clarifying certain concepts and to facilitate a discussion on Islamic banking.

Community-service talks such as these provide interested members of the public an avenue to understand the fundamental concepts within Islamic banking. Previous community-service talk by CIBFM includes that given to Halaqah group.
