LABI LONGHOUSE & WATERFALL

Description: This is a full-day tour that takes us into the centre of Brunei, geographically. Starting at approximately 7.30am, we'll proceed down the “old route” to Tutong town, through scenic countryside. Our first stop will be the Forestry Museum at the Sungai Liang Forest Reserve and Research Centre. You will be able to see the diversity of flora and fauna that inhibits Brunei’s rainforest. We then proceed along Labi road toward Luagan Lalak Recreational Park, which covers approximately 270 hectares. A rare and interesting place, it features an alluvial freshwater swamp or empran. During the rainy season, it fills up like a lake and in drier spells, the waters recede and the valley becomes covered with sedges.

Then, to the Labi longhouse, a unique dwelling form in Borneo. A village under one roof, the longhouse consists of a row of family houses or doors with a communal area running the length of the building. This is the social centre of the village. These dwellers are Ibans from Sarawak who settled in Brunei in the early 70s. We will visit the longhouse (a cultural dance can be arranged for a fee) and have tea with the residents. Just before lunchtime, we proceed to the Wasai Wong Kadir waterfall. A 20-minute trek takes you to a waterfall surrounded by rainforest. A picnic lunch will be served and here you can relax, swim or read a book.

BRUNEI COUNTRYSIDE TOUR
