WORKSHOP 5 (Maximum 60 seats)
TITLE: Sports Medicine
i) Review of functional anatomy in relation to injury in sports, and sport in general
ii) Application of psychology to performance in sport
INTRODUCTION
This workshop will be split into two sections both covering two broad subjects within the wider discipline of sport-science / sport-medicine. It will be facilitated by two experts in sports medicine who are currently working in all areas of sports medicine, with a particular interest in injury management and sports psychology.
Section (i) will be a series of practice scenarios using pictures and models. Participants will work through each case guided by experts in sport medical injuries.
Section (ii) will be a short presentation followed by small group discussions, on the use of psychology in motivation and performance in sport.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this workshop, participants will:

Achieve an in-depth understanding of sports specific injuries as well the working anatomy of the upper and lower limbs in the context of physical activity and training. Participant will have an appreciation of sports injury management along with recommendations for training-methods aimed at minimising the potential for injury. |

Participants will have a thorough introduction to the topic of sports psychology. They will have an understanding of how this discipline is used to motivate sports-people and cope with “failure”. |
