TITLE: Diabetes: Current Trends in Treatment and Education
INTRODUCTION
At present diabetes causes approximately 5% of all deaths globally, whilst in Brunei diabetes was the third leading cause of death by disease in 2005. Moreover, recent figures from The World Health Organisation website suggest that the number of deaths due to diabetes is likely to increase by more than 50% in the next 10 years unless urgent action is taken. Two possible means for averting this outcome, whilst simultaneously reducing the social and economic burden of diabetes, are advances in diabetes treatment and management and improving public education. This workshop is designed to address these two issues.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this workshop, participants will:

Receive practical advice from some of the leading regional diabetes clinicians about the latest developments in the care of diabetes; |

Receive diabetes education on the types of content to include in diabetes educational programs in order to guarantee success. |
