The Academy of Brunei Studies (APB) on 15 November 2016 launched the "Suara Wanita Brunei" (Voice of Bruneian Women) book at the Senate Room of the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in conjunction with the faculty’s 26th anniversary.
Present as the Guest of Honour at the event and launching the book was the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Suyoi Hj Osman.
The event started with opening remarks by Dr Siti Norkhalbi Hj Wahsalfelah, Director of APB who touched on the role and journey of the faculty since its inception in 1990.
In addition to "Suara Wanita Brunei", which was written by a former senior lecturer at the Academy of Brunei Studies the late Datin Dr Hjh Saadiah Datu Derma Wijaya Hj Tamit, other publications from APB's academic and teaching staff were also available on display. This included a book from an international publisher, Routledge titled "Brunei - History, Islam, Society and Contemporary Issues". The display even showcased short videos of writers from APB. Earlier in 2014, APB launched two volumes of the book "Tradisi dan Reformasi Pendidikan: Merista Jasa Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien" (Traditions and Education Reforms: Looking Back on the Deeds of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien).
Attending the event were about 200 invited guests made up of APB stakeholders from government and private sectors, educational institutions and individuals who have worked closely with faculty all these years.
APB is a faculty that offers a multidisciplinary approach to covering the various aspects of life in Brunei Darussalam. It offers a range of modules ranging from Languages, Literature (traditional and modern) to Politics, Malay Islamic Monarchy and Islam and Sociocultural Studies.
