The Master of Teaching (MTeach) programme welcomed 170 students at its three-day orientation in the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) from 11th to 13th January.
The MTeach programme received the largest number of students this year since the introduction of the programme in 2009. The orientation aims to introduce the new teacher candidates to the faculty and also to familiarize them with the structure of the programme.
The three-day orientation is set to commence with a welcoming address by the Dean, Dr Jainatul Halida Bte Haji Jaidin, followed by briefings from the Initial Teacher Preparation and School Partnership teams. During the orientation, new MTeach students will hear personal stories of inspiration, growth and challenge from experienced teachers from various schools and institutions. They will also meet current MTeach students who will help them to acclimatise to studying in SHBIE.
In addition, the School Partnership team provides the students the opportunity to meet and mingle with their clinical specialists. Motivational talks by Pg Dr Hjh Nur-Ashikin bte Pg Hj Petra and by Dr Hjh Salwa Dato Seri Setia Hj Mahalle will also feature on the final day of orientation. There will also be a talk by Associate Professor Dr Koay Teng Leong which offers teaching tips for new teachers. Each orientation day ends with a question and answer session.
