72 Awarded University Book Prizes and Medals

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) honoured the achievements of its excellent students at the University Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony on 28th August 2019, held in conjunction with the recent 31st Convocation. Presenting the awards was the guest of honour Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education.

In attendance at the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Transportation and Infocommunications, who is a member of the UBD alumni, and Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education. Also present were UBD principal officers and staff, sponsors as well as award recipients' family members.

A total of 77 medals, Book Prizes, and Excellence awards were presented to 72 students during the ceremony, five of whom were recipients of the coveted University Silver Medal Award. The Silver Medalists are Fatin Batrisya Nadiah Haji Marzuki, Abdul Khaaliq Saadeq Tasad, Liaw Kian Siong, Muhammad 'Irfan Major (Rtd) Haji Abdul Rahman and Dk Iffah Haziqah Pg Mohamad. Muhammad Mu'az Haji Imran is one of the top recipients of the year, having been awarded the Vice Chancellor's Medal. The special medal is awarded to a graduate with excellent performance based on academic achievement, co-curricular involvement, contribution to society as well as demonstrates solid leadership qualities.

Amongst the recipients of the University Book Prize, 8 students and 60 students from Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree programmes respectively received the prestigious award for their outstanding performance. Of the 60 Bachelor's Degree Book Prize recipients, 28 were recipients for level 4000 and 5000 (majors), 17 for level 2000 and 3000 (majors) and 15 for level 1000 (majors). One student received the Book Prize for her outstanding performance in the Melayu Islam Beraja module and another student received the Book Prize for her outstanding performance in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medicine) programme. A high performing Diploma student currently in his final year also received an Excellence Award during the ceremony.
