To celebrate the 31st Convocation of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Pesta Konvo UBD 2019 kicked off on 15th August 2019 with a showcase of innovative and creative student and alumni projects at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), UBD.
The month-long festival was officially launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Pro Chancellor of UBD. The opening ceremony was also attended by Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina POKLWDSS Haji Awang Abdul Aziz; foreign dignitaries and prominent officials from government agencies.
This year's Pesta Konvo showcases nine innovative and creative projects by current and graduating students as well as UBD alumni that show constructive ideas of youth, courage in involving themselves in various fields and industries as well as their spirit in innovating the country and shaping the country's future.
Organised by the Student Affairs Section and UBD Students' Association (PMUBD), with the assistance from the Office of Promotion and Events Management (OPEM), Pesta Konvo hosts a variety of exhibitions to celebrate the success of its current and graduating students. Some of the highlights of the exhibition include the Automated Medicine Dispenser which is designed and developed with a low cost that can be utilised at home to support patients in their daily medication routine; the UBD Digital Herbarium, which is an online database of images and information on plant species; and smartphone apps featuring Chator Asli Brunei and tenunan motifs.
The opening ceremony also saw the presentation of Pesambah from the Student Representative Council of UBD Students' Association (PMUBD) to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.
Among other events held in conjunction with the Pesta Konvo, a Khatam Al-Quran and thanksgiving prayer will be held on 17th August to bless the graduating students in their future endeavours. The Pesta Konvo is held annually in the run-up to the Convocation Ceremony to celebrate UBD graduates' success and achievements while showcasing ideas and creations by its current and graduating students. The 31st Convocation Ceremony is scheduled to take place on 22nd August at the Chancellor Hall, where graduates will receive their scrolls.
