UBD is collaborating with FPT University to set up the UBD-FPT Global Centre in Da Nang, central Vietnam to realise the city's goal to be an English-proficient start-up city.
To achieve this shared mission, a group of UBD graduates were put through a stringent selection process and subsequently signed up for the Teaching Abroad Programme. They received training and attended workshops in teaching and learning English language prior to their departure.
The 13 teachers who left for Vietnam to be posted in the UBD-FPT Global Centre were Ng Mei Ping, Dk Nur Afiqah Pg Hj Abdul Rahman, Naomi Melissa Choo, Pg Hanisah Pg Hj Bakar, Dk Nurul Hazimah Pg Hj Mumin, Siti Anisah Hj Yussof, Muhammad Adi Aiman Hj Rusli, Mohd Danial Wang Mohd Ziffrey Wang, Lim Ya Hui, Norsyafiqah Amira Kharin, Lim Chai Hui, Mohd Shafi'ee Yakob and Muhammad Adlan Mursyid Hj Abidin.
The UBD-FPT Global Centre in Da Nang will be the first UBD campus outside of Brunei Darussalam. It is also the first overseas campus established in the region by an ASEAN university. It aims to be the main English language training facility in ASEAN, offering the opportunity for local graduates to be trained and gain exposure to become marketable individuals. This would also have positive impact for UBD and the Sultanate in general.
"In addition, the establishment of UBD-FPT Global Centre is an international development initiative of UBD which is hoped to raise the academic profile and reputation of the university globally," Datin Dr Hjh Anita Binurul Zahrina Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD said during the agreement signing ceremony on 8th July 2017. She reminded the 13 teachers to constantly strive to perform their duties wholeheartedly and with dedication, remembering to also uphold the values of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) while abroad.
A memorandum of understanding signed in 2012 between UBD and FPT University marked the start of student exchange programmes between the two institutions. Students from UBD have carried out their Discovery Year there while UBD has also received students from FPT University for it's Intensive English Proficiency Course (IEPC).
FPT University is a partner university of UBD. It is the first private university established by FPT Corporation, the biggest info-technology company in Vietnam which has more than 20 branches globally.
