Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) joined seven other Asian universities in the King's Flair Group Asian Universities Invitational Basketball Tournament to celebrate the 80th anniversary of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The men's team event aimed to promote the sport of basketball while cultivating friendship and collaboration among Asian universities.
Honorary Chairman of the tournament Timothy W Tong said that "The tournament not only provides an excellent arena for student-athletes from different cultures in Asia to demonstrate their physical prowess, but also helps to promote collaboration and cultural exchange among universities in the region." He added the perseverance and tenacity they demonstrate on the court will be beneficial for a lifetime as they are key qualities that will help players face future challenges and overcome hurdles.
A single-round robin system was adopted and UBD faced Kyoto University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Nanyang Technological University. Other universities vying for the top spot in the invitational tournament were Kazakhstan's Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, South China University of Technology, Taiwan University of Science and Technology and University of Macau.
At the end of the three-day tournament, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University were crowned champions following their final match against Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
