Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held a flag raising ceremony on 16th February 2017 in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's 33rd National Day celebration.
Present as the guest of honour to officiate the ceremony was Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean.
Invited guests included UBD principal officers, members of staff and students who gathered in front of the UBD Library. The ceremony began with a march pass by flag-bearing UBD Army Cadet Platoon members. After the guest of honour handed over the national flag to the UBD Army Cadet Platoon, they joined in the recital of Al-Fatihah and sang the national anthem as the flag was hoisted. Those present then contributed their voices to an energetic singing of the patriotic song "Berkibarlah Bendera". The event closed with the recital of Doa Selamat.
An annual event, the ceremony is organised by Student Affairs Section of UBD, aimed to instill and enflame the spirit of patriotism and love of for our beloved country within our community, especially the students as the country’s future generation. It is also to support the country's vision for 2035, in line with the theme of this year’s National Day "Menjayakan Wawasan Negara".
