4th batch sign scholarship agreement with Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd

Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd signed scholarship agreements with 14 Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students for a joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme with UBD and Zhejiang University, China on 14th February 2017.

The signing event took place at the Business Centre at The Empire Hotel & Country Club and was witnessed by the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Hj Jamain Hj Julaihi, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Signing on behalf of Hengyi was Chen Lian Cai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, while the individual students signed their respective agreements in the presence of parents as guarantors. 

Hengyi Industries have established a joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme with UBD and Zhejiang University to sponsor students from the Faculty of Intergrated Technologies (FIT), UBD to undertake the later part of their academic studies and undergo industrial training at Zhejiang University for a period of one and a half years.

The programme will include placement in a Petrochemical plant in China where the students will gain first-hand experience in a real live operational refinery environment. Upon completion of the programme, the students will then be offered employment at Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd. This is the fourth batch of students under the scholarship arrangement with UBD and Zhejiang University.

This annual joint scholarship programme between the University Brunei Darussalam and Zhejiang University has produced a total of 43 scholars. The first batch of scholars have already completed their studies and is currently employed by Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd. The second batch has completed their studies and industrial training in China and is currently back in Brunei finishing off their internship with Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd before graduating. The third batch of scholars is currently undergoing the programme in China until July 2017.

The Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam seeks to deliver quality, design-centric, broad-based engineering programmes based around the GenNext educational structure, and includes specialisations in Systems Engineering and Chemical & Process Engineering. These programmes have been developed through collaborative works with two world leading universities, namely the Stevens Institute of Technology in the United States and Zhejiang University in China.
