Traditional Chinese Medicine


GUCM promotes research and education on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). They pave the way for TCM research by incorporating advanced scientific techniques to complement the practice of TCM from botanical identification to molecular identification/isolation of bioactive compounds. This sharing session will provide an insight to ongoing research being undertaken at GUCM in the field of TCM, including research on various TCM-related agricultural residues, ginseng tissue culture and TCM formulation. Also, highlights on the research work presented on natural products in China will be shared.


Speakers’ profiles:

Dr. Shirley Lee:

Dr Shirley Lee graduated from University of Cambridge (BHSc Natural Sciences) and Imperial College London (MSc in Human Molecular Genetics).  She returned to University of Cambridge to pursue her PhD in Medical Genetics from 2010-2014.  She joined UBD in May 2015 and is currently a lecturer in the Biomedical Science programme at PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences.


Dr. Rajan Rajabalaya:

Dr. Rajan Rajabalaya is a Lecturer and Assistant Programme Leader for Pharmacy at the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei. Dr. Rajabalaya’s research interests are in the areas of drug delivery and development, cosmetics and natural product formulation research. He is the author of “Freshwater Phytopharmaceuticals” book which was published by Taylors & Francis (CRC Press). Dr Rajabalaya is an expert in formulation and preparation of drugs and natural products. He has more than 10 years of experience in this field.


Dr. Sheba David:

Dr. Sheba David is the Programme Leader for Pharmacy and is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei. She was a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Department of pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Her area of interest lies in natural products, pharmacological evaluations, drug delivery and biomaterials. Dr. David has been working in the field of pharmacology and natural products.
