International Student Unit

The International Student Unit (ISU) provides administrative services to international students related to travel documents, identify card and immigration matters. ISU is located at the Student Affairs Building with a counter service located at Student Central. Students can visit the counter during working hours or email ISU at office.isu@ubd.edu.bn

Roles and Responsibilities

ISU facilitates international student applications as follows: –

  • Application for Student Pass and Visa on Arrival (VOA)
  • Renewal of Student Pass/Visa
  • Extension of Student Pass/Visa
  • Cancellation of Student Pass/Visa
  • Application or Renewal of Brunei Green Identity Card (IC)
  • Transfer student pass from old to new passport
  • Official Documents/Letters: Release Letter

Before Arrival

An international student would need to prepare the following documents prior to travel:-

  • Medical fitness certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner stating that you are medically fit  to study in Brunei
  • A valid passport (expiry date of not less than six months ) and a copy of passport ( front page and page of entry chop)
  • A completed visa application form
  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • A copy of the UBD offer letter
  • A copy of valid insurance that includes COVID-19 cover
  • A copy of scholarship approval letter (if applicable)
  • Cash payment as determine by the Brunei Embassy in the student’s home country where the Entry Visa Application is processed.

Upon Arrival

Please make an appointment to see the International Student Coordinator 3 – 5 days after your arrival by email office.isu@ubd.edu.bn. 

For the appointment, please bring along with you the following the documents for the endorsement of your Student Visa/Pass:-

  • Original Passport
  • A photocopy of the front page of the passport
  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • Original stamped Visa letter and one extra photocopy
  • Completed Student Pass form (this will be provided by email prior to your travels)
  • A copy of the UBD offer letter.

Additional Advice

International students are strongly advised to contact the Embassy/High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in your respective countries to ascertain whether a visa is necessary.

Ensure that you have sufficient funds for all other expenses such as subsistence, accommodation and travel e.g. an emergency fund of at least BND1000 in case of any incidental expenses upon or immediately after arrival to Brunei Darussalam.

Make accommodation reservations early if planning to stay in on-campus accommodation.
