Accepting the offer

You are required to submit your response to the offer by replying through the Online Admission System OASys by the due date.

        1. Login to OASys  [If you have any difficulty logging in, please email helpdesk.oasys@ubd.edu.bn]

        2. Select your response:

      • ACCEPT – Yes, you will be joining the programme you have been offered in the intake offered (the intake you applied for).
      • REJECT – No, you will not be joining UBD
      • DEFER – You are unable to start your studies in the intake offered. However you still want to join the programme offered in the next intake [Refer Deferment of Admission below]

Depends on the insurance package that you choose

  1. COMPULSORY for all students.
  2. Purchase according to the duration of your programme (1 year, 3 years or 4 years)
  3. For international students, you may purchase a one-year policy, if you wish, and renew annually.
  4. Purchase your own personal insurance coverage before Tuesday, 3 January 2017. You may purchase your coverage earlier or during the 2-days period prior to Freshers Week or visit their respective offices. .
  5. Please bring along your UBD Offer Letter to any of the listed Insurance Companies.

  • How To Pay

    • Online Payment – You will receive an email about online payment (ePayment) after you have accepted the offer in OASys. The ePayment is now available for your use for all payments, except insurance.
    • Counter Payment – You can go directly to the Finance Office counter, Ground Floor, Administration Building if you wish to pay in cash.
    • PMUBD Fees can also be made over the counters at Chancellor Hall during the Freshers Week registration period and during the Freshers Week.

Scholarship

If you have been awarded scholarship or is under the In-Service Training Scheme (LDP), please submit a copy of your scholarship or LDP letter to Student Central at the Student Affairs Building, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Scholarship students are still required to pay the Registration Fee – this will not be included in the scholarship.

Brunei Darussalam citizens admitted to undergraduate study who applied through the Higher Education Central Admission System HECAS – if you are eligible for the Brunei Government Scholarship, your scholarship application will be processed for you by UBD to the Ministry of Education.

Academic calendar

There are two semesters in an Academic Year. For the January intake, Semester 1 starts in January and Semester 2 starts in August. For information on important university dates and semester breaks, you can view the Academic Calendar

Student Insurance

It is important and COMPULSORY for ALL students to have their own personal insurance coverage. For international students, please ensure that the insurance covers the duration of your stay in Brunei Darussalam and is internationally-recognized.

You will be required to:

  • Purchase your own personal insurance coverage before Tuesday, 3 January 2017. You may purchase your coverage earlier or during the 2-days period prior to Freshers Week or visit their respective offices.
  • Show proof of insurance policy purchased in order to collect your UBD student card.

UBD Freshers Week

All new students are required to attend the UBD Freshers Week. The UBD Freshers Week is an orientation week filled with briefings on matters important for university life and other activities. Attendance will be taken.

Checklist for Freshers Week

For Freshers Week, please ensure that you have done the following:

  • Bring with you to the Freshers’ Registration:
    • A copy of your UBD offer letter
    • A copy of your IC
    • 2 x passport-sized photos (with blue background)
  • Complete the Health Declaration Form (also available in the above link), either in English or Malay, and submit during Freshers’ Registration
  • Pay your deposit (if relevant), registration fee, acceptance fee, tuition fee (if relevant) and PMUBD fees (if relevant)
    • Please refer to How To Pay
    • Bring with you a copy of each payment receipt to the Freshers Week Registration.
  • Purchase your student insurance package
    • Compulsory for ALL students
    • You may do this at Chancellor Hall during the Freshers’ Registration (Pre-Freshers Week) session 28th and 29th December 2016
    • Prior or after Freshers Registration, purchase of insurance need to be made at the respective office of your preferred insurance provider
    • Please bring along a copy of your offer letter for this
    • You will need to show a copy of the insurance policy note and proof of payment of registration fee to collect your UBD Student Card
  • Make accommodation reservations with UBD Corporation for those planning to stay on-campus. Details on the contact and rates below in University Accommodation.
  • For international students, please ensure that you have:
    • Provided your Medical Fitness Certificate with your reply of acceptance of offer
    • Obtained your visa or visa on arrival (VOA) through our International Student Office
    • Purchase personal student accident cover for the duration of your stay in Brunei Darussalam
    • Sufficient funds for all other expenses
    • Make accommodation reservations early
    • Undergo Medical Fitness Assessment in Brunei Darussalam upon your arrival.
  • Pay your UBD Students’ Association Fees (PMUBD)
    • Compulsory for ALL undergraduate students

Etiquette for Freshers Week

  • Arrive in UBD as early as possible. Car parking spaces may be limited.
  • Be familiar with the campus and the locations of all the venues. Be punctual for all the events.
  • Attend ALL the Freshers Week sessions, as the information given in each session shall help you in your transition to university life. Refer to the above Freshers Week Programme & Floor Plan – to be confirmed.
  • It is important to attend your FACULTY ORIENTATION SESSION to get to know your Dean, Assistant Registrar, Programme Leaders and Discovery Year coordinators, who will give out academic advice regarding your programme, including modules to register.
  • Get acquainted with the Student Affairs Sections Officers (Dean, Deputy Dean, Assistant Registrar, Welfare Officer, ECA Officers, Religious Officers, Accommodation Manager, International Students Coordinator, etc). They will have important and useful information on student welfare in UBD. 
  • Get to know your Students Representative Council (MPP) and register with the UBD Students’ Association (PMUBD) - they will be your voice throughout your years in UBD. This is compulsory for all undergraduate students (Constitution of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Students’ Association – Article V).
  • NO SMOKING POLICY on UBD Campus. 
  • Ask questions if you are unsure. You may approach any of the members of staff or members of the UBD Students’ Association.

Information for INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • All international students are required to provide a Medical Fitness Certificate with your reply of acceptance of offer.

Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner stating that you are medically fit to undertake your studies at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Charges incurred (if any) in obtaining the Medical Fitness Certificate will be borne by the student.

  • Visa / Student Pass

International students are required to contact our International Student Office [Contact person: Ms Sendi Batu;  sendi.batu@ubd.edu.bn] for your visa / student pass arrangements. Charges incurred (if any) in obtaining the visa / student pass will be borne by the student.

For this purpose, please ensure that you have: -

  • A valid passport (not less than six months)
  • A completed visa application form
  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • A copy of the UBD offer letter
  • A copy of valid insurance

You are not encouraged to bring your family/dependents to Brunei Darussalam for the duration of your study. This is not covered in your visa/student pass. For your information, the Department of Immigration Brunei Darussalam would incur a charge of BND1500.00 per person for accompanying dependents.

International students are also advised to: -

  • Purchase personal student accident cover for the duration of your stay in Brunei Darussalam. Please ensure that the cover taken is valid in Brunei Darussalam. This is a requirement of the International Students Office for visas, student pass and entry pass purposes.
  • Ensure that you have sufficient funds for all other expenses such as subsistence, accommodation and travel e.g. an emergency fund of at least BND1000 in case of any incidental expenses upon or immediately after arrival to Brunei Darussalam.
  • Make accommodation reservations early if planning to stay in on-campus accommodation.
  • You will also be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Assessment in Brunei Darussalam upon your arrival at any privated clinics in Brunei, including Jerudong Park Medical Centre. Charges incurred will be borne by the student
