Faculty Examinations Board
  1. The Head of Department and one other representative from each Department within the Faculty concerned are required to attend a meeting of the Faculty Examinations Board which will be held shortly after the end of the marking period on a date to be notified by the Registrar's Office. A representative from those Faculties which offer courses for programmes for which the Faculty is responsible, as defined in the Academic Regulations covering the programme, may also be invited to the Meeting.
  2. This meeting will consider the candidates’ examination results and make recommendations to the University Examinations Board which will meet shortly after the Faculty Examinations Boards.
  3. .
    1. The Faculty Examinations Board will be chaired by the Dean of the Faculty (or the Deputy Dean).
    2. The Faculty Examinations Board will receive from the ICTC (via the Examinations Office) the composite Broadsheets for the programmes for which the Faculty is responsible and for any programmes for which the Faculty offers courses. These Broadsheets will show the total marks and grades only for a course.
    3. Heads of Departments will be expected to produce the continuous assessment / examination mark breakdowns for an individual candidate, if requested, at the Faculty Examinations Board.any other special case relating to an individual candidate, examination or programme;
    4. The Faculty Examinations Board may make any adjustments it sees fit to the marks and grades submitted by individual Departments for the courses for which the Faculty is responsible. However, any changes to marks (upgrading or downgrading of marks & grades) should normally be carried out at Departmental Examinations Boards. Changes to marks and grades by the Faculty Examinations Board should only be made if they can be fully justified, and should be reported in the Minutes of the Meeting.
  4. The Faculty Examinations Board will consider and may make recommendations to the University Examinations Board on:
    1. candidates qualifying for a Supplementary Examination;
    2. any candidate who has achieved Probationary status;
    3. the position of any candidate whose poor performance in the examination in question/previous examinations may merit  transferring to another degree course or withdrawing from the University;
    4. any other special case relating to an individual candidate, examination or programme;
    5. the overall performance of students in a course or Department;
    6. the classification of Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates to be awarded and the award of exhibitions and prizes where these are provided for.
  5. The Faculty Examinations Board shall recommend to the University Examinations Board the marks and grades to be awarded for credit-transfer to candidates for courses taken at overseas institutions on the Study Abroad Programme, the Singapore International Foundation Programme etc., according to the following guidelines:
    1. The grades at the overseas institution should be equated with Universiti Brunei Darussalam grades as far as possible (for example, an `A’ grade at an overseas institution should be allocated an `A’ grade at UBD);
    2. The marks awarded by the overseas institution should be adjusted by adding or subtracting marks as necessary so that the adjusted mark to be awarded at UBD reflects the original grade awarded, except where the mark awarded at the overseas institution is less than 40% and the grade awarded is `Fail’ in which case no adjustment to the marks should be carried out.
    3. The adjustments necessary will be determined by the Faculty Examinations Board, in consultation with the Departments concerned and by reference to the scheme of marks and grades applicable at the overseas institution and at UBD (Regulation 18 of the University Examination Regulations). The following examples indicate how the guidelines should be used:
      1. For courses taken at Universities in the United Kingdom or in Singapore:
        The mark awarded at the UK institution should be increased by 10 marks, on the basis that Grade A in UK Universities = marks above 70% while at UBD grade A = marks above 80%, Grade B = marks above 60% etc. Marks above 90% should not be adjusted.
      2. For courses taken at Australian and Malaysian Universities:
        The marks should not be adjusted since the scheme of marks and grades are the same as those used at UBD.
      3. For courses taken at Universities in Jordan and the Middle East:
        The mark awarded at the University of Jordan or similar Universities having a similar scheme of marks and grades, the marks awarded should be reduced by 5 marks, on the basis that Grade A = marks above 85%, while at UBD grade A = marks above 80% etc.
      4. For courses taken at Universities in Korea and Japan:
        The UBD mark awarded should be an average of the mark obtained at the overseas university and the average mark obtained by the candidate at UBD during the semester immediately prior to proceeding abroad for study (normally the average mark for the fourth semester at UBD).
