2.7 DIPLOMA & CERTIFICATES

i) Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE)

Code	Programmes Offered
70	Diploma in Primary Education (3 years full-time) Applicants for admission to the Diploma in Primary Education programmee:
	(i)	Must have obtained at least five (5) credit passes at Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications obtained in three sittings within the last five years.
	(ii)	The five ‘O’ Level credit passes must include a credit in English Language or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 and three other English medium subjects; and
	(iii)	At least a credit in Mathematics and a science subject (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Combined Science) if these subjects are not included in the five GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes above.
	The student intake for this programme will be a maximum of 60 students.
703	Diploma in Technical Education (1 year full-time) This programme is intended for upgraders / in-service teachers in the Ministry of Education or other relevant sectors. Applicant must hold a Higher National Diploma in a relevant technical or vocational field or its equivalent and at least a credit six in English Language in GCE ‘O’ Level or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550.
704	Diploma in Physical Education - (3 years full-time) Applicants for admission to the Diploma in Physical Education programme:
	(i)	Must have obtained at least five (5) credit passes at Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications obtained in three sittings within the last five years;
	(ii)	The five ‘O’ Level credit passes must include a credit in English Language or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 and one other English medium subject;
	(iii)	At least a pass in Mathematics if this subject is not included in the five GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes above;
	(iv)	Pass fitness test and assessment for sports related skills conducted by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education; and
	(v)	Must show evidence of active participation and excellence in sports and extra curricular activities.
401	Diploma in Primary Education (Modular) - (Minimum 24 calendar months and maximum 48 calendar months) Applicants for admission to Diploma in Primary Education (Modular) programme :
	(i)	Must have at least four credit passes in GCE ‘O’ Level examination or its equivalent including Bahasa Melayu for Malay medium strand or English Language for English medium strand;
	(ii)	Must have obtained at least a pass in Mathematics if this subject is not included in the four GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes above;
	(iii)	Must have at least three years of relevant teaching experience in a recognized institution and currently hold a full-time teaching position in a school registered with the Ministry of Education.
	Note:	This programme is conducted on a modular basis which requires candidates to attend classes after working hours, during the weekends and school holidays. The tuition fee for this programme is fixed at B$7,500.00. The fee may be payable in 6 months installments at a rate of B$1,250.00 at the commencement of each module.
61	SIJIL KAUNSELING (1 tahun sepenuh masa) Terdapat dua jenis program yang ditawarkan:
	a)	Sijil Kaunseling untuk Guru / Pegawai Pelajaran.
	b)	Sijil Kaunseling untuk Pegawai Sektor Awam / Swasta / Bukan Guru Terlatih Mempunyai kelulusan sekurang-kurangnya empat kepujian (credit) dalam Peperiksaan Sijil Am Pelajaran Peringkat Biasa dan mempunyai pengalam mengajar / bekerja dalam pembangunan sumber tenaga manusia atau kerja sosial.
53	Sijil Pengurusan Pendidikan - (1 tahun sepenuh masa)
59	Sijil Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak - (1 1½ tahun sepenuh masa)
	Syarat-syarat kemasukkan bagi kod program – 61 (a), 53 dan 59 ialah :
	Mempunyai kelulusan Sijil Pendidikan dari Universiti Brunei Darussalam atau yang sebandingnya dan mempunyai sekurang-kurangnya tiga tahun pengalaman mengajar.

ii) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

51	Sijil Penulisan Kreatif (1 tahun sepenuh masa) Program ini terbuka kepada pegawai-pegawai di sektor awam dan sektor swasta yang memenuhi syarat-syarat berikut:
	(i)	Sekurang-kurangnya mendapat tiga kepujian dengan gred ‘C’ atau lebih baik termasuk mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu dan/atau Kesusasteraan Melayu dalam Peperiksaan Sijil Am Pelajaran peringkat biasa (Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level) atau sebanding dengannya dan mestilah mempunyai pengalaman dalam penulisan dan penerbitan; ATAU
	(ii)	Pemohon-pemohon yang tidak memenuhi syarat (a) boleh dipertimbangkan dengan syarat mempunyai pengalaman dan kemahiran berkaitan seperti penerbitan dan pengalaman kerja dalam penulisan kreatif, penyuntingan, penterjemahan, penyiaran, penerangan, perhubungan awam, pengiklanan dan penerbitan di jabatan-jabatan kerajaan atau sektor swasta.
	Jumlah pengambilan untuk mengikuti program ini adalah terhad.

All the Diploma and Certificate programmes require an interview. To qualify for admission, applicants must be successful at the interview conducted by the University Admission Committee.
