Students are selected on merit and those with
the best and most relevant Higher School Certificate/GCE "A" Levels
passes will be selected for interview at UBD before the final
selection is made. Other qualifications deemed equivalent to
Higher School Certificate/GCE "A" Levels by the University
may also be acceptable. Application forms for degree programmes
are available from the Scholarships and Welfare Section, Ministry
of Education, for those who wish to apply for Brunei Government
Scholarships. Applicants on private sponsorship can obtain the
application forms directly from the Registrar's Office (Admissions
and Student Records). Applicants from ASEAN countries and ISESCO
member countries may obtain the application form from the nearest
Brunei Darussalam Embassy or they may write direct to the Admissions
Office, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Completed forms from foreign
applicants must reach UBD before 15 April for those who wish
to be enrolled in August the same year..
Applicants must be prepared to attend any interview
and take any test required by the University Admissions Committee
and after acceptance must be certified medically fit to follow
the programme by any Government and recognised doctor.
The University's Admissions Requirements are
as follows:
Certificate in Education
At least four (4) credit passes in 'O' level
subjects, including Malay Language. Priority will be given to
those who possess higher grades in English medium subjects preferably
in one sitting or accumulated within two years, successively.
Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
A relevant degree from a recognised institution
Master of Public Policy
An honours degree (minimum Second Class Lower)
of Universiti Brunei Darussalam or any other University recognized
by Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Alternatively candidates may
be considered if they possess other academic and/or professional
qualifications. Appropriate experience and publications may also
be taken into account.
Master of Education
Applicants are required to have a degree (normally
a second class honours degree) from a recognised institution,
a minimum of 5 years working experience, and be able to demonstrate
a level of English deemed to be sufficient to complete the course
successfully.
All applicants are to be interviewed in order
to determine those who will be selected into the programme.
Certificate in Early Childhood Education
This program is open only to local applicants
who are Lower and Upper Primary teachers in the schools. They
must posses a minimum of Teacher Training Certificate from a
recognised institution and should not be more than 45 years old.
Applicants must be bilingual (spoken and written) and posses
teaching experience of not less than five years.
Certificate in Special Education
This programme is offered by the Sultan Hassanal
Bolkiah Institute of Education in collaboration with the Ministry
of Education and is aimed at preparing Learning Assistance Teachers
who will be involved in special education programmes to be introduced
into the schools of Brunei Darussalam. Through this Programme
these teachers will be equipped with knowledge, skills and strategies
to recognsie and assist students with high incidence handicaps
in their respective schools.
The Certificate in Special Education is a part-time
programme at the in-service level. The programme covers three
semesters. There are eight courses in this Programme and student
teachers are required to accumulate 30 units to be awarded the
Certificate. The lectures and tutorials for this Programme are
conducted on a part-time basis.
