GENERAL NOTES (PHD/MASTER PROGRAMMES)
- Fulfilling the minimum general entry requirements and specific entry requirements does not guarantee entry into UBD programmes, as admission to all programmes is competitive and limited and subject to availability of places.
- Applicants must satisfy other requirements as set by faculties / institutes / academy in Universiti Brunei Darussalam from time to time.
- Applications for admission to UBD programmes must be made on the prescribed application forms. Each application form must be accompanied by an administrative fee of B$5.00.
- Universiti Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to reject applications which are incomplete, received after the closing date or containing false information.
- Only shortlisted / successful candidates will be contacted.
- Applicants must pass the security screening and shall undergo further health examination or tests if required by the University.
Masters by Coursework/Masters by Coursework and Dissertation
- The minimum requirement for Masters Degree programmes is normally a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (Second Class and above) or its equivalent from institutions recognized by the University Senate. Applicants who do not possess a Second Class Honours Degree may be considered, provided they have relevant working experience and possess other academic or professional qualifications deemed suitable and equivalent for the purpose of admission to the programme.
- For entry to English medium Master Degree programmes, applicants must be able to show English Language proficiency and those who do not have an English medium undergraduate degree qualification must normally have at least a credit six in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score of at least 550, except for Master of Teaching programmes which requires both a credit six in English Language at GCE “O’ Level or a grade “C” in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) and an IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL minimum overall score of at least 600.
- All M.Ed. programmes and Program Sarjana Pendidikan commence in January. The advertisement for these programmes will be published in February / March each year.
PhD / Master by Research
- Applications for PhD and Master programmes by research can be submitted to the University at any time of the year. Interested applicants are advised to consult the relevant departments in the Faculty/Institute/Academy to discuss the proposed research proposal before a formal application is submitted.
- 11. The minimum entry requirement for PhD programmes is normally a relevant Master’s degree or a First Class Honours degree or its equivalent from an institution recognized by the University Senate. Applicants are also required to submit a detailed research proposal which is normally expected to include the following topics:
- proposed title;
- rationale;
- aims and methodology;
- literature review;
- preliminary bibliography;
- provisional timetable;
- provisional table of contents, and
- an indication of any special requirements for the study.
