2.6 First Degree

All first degree programmes are 4 years full-time unless otherwise stated.

General Entry Requirements

Applicants must have obtained at least two relevant ‘A' level passes at GCE ‘A' Level Examination or equivalent qualifications obtained in 3 sittings within the last 3 years (2003 – 2005).

And

For English-medium and Bilingual programmes, at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE ‘O' Level Examination or a grade C in IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS score of 6.5 (obtained within the last 5 years) or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550.

For Malay-medium programmes, at least a credit 6 in Bahasa Melayu at GCE ‘O' Level Examination.

For BA (Malay medium) and BA Major in Brunei Studies programmes, at least a credit 6 in Bahasa Melayu and at least a pass in English Language at GCE ‘O' Level Examination or at IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS score of 5.0 (obtained within the last 5 years ).

2.6.1 Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education

02	-	Sarjana Muda Sastera Pendidikan Major sama ada dalam Bahasa Melayu, Kesusasteraan Melayu atau Pengajian Brunei. Satu minor dipilih sama ada dari Bahasa Melayu, Pengajian Islam, Pengajian Brunei atau Kesusasteraan Melayu. Kedua-dua kelulusan di peringkat lanjutan (‘A' Level) mestilah gred C atau lebih baik dan salah satu keputusan mestilah dalam subjek Bahasa Melayu . Keutamaan akan diberikan kepada kelulusan subjek Bahasa Melayu yang tinggi. Pengambilan pelajar untuk program ini dihadkan kepada maksimum 60 orang .
06	-	BA (Education) Major either in Geography, Economics, History or Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL). One Minor chosen either from Geography, Economics, TESL, History or Mathematics. The two ‘A' Level passes must have been obtained either in Geography, Economics, History or other relevant English medium subjects at grade C and D or better.
08	-	B.Sc. (Education) The two ‘A' level passes must have been obtained either in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, both at grade D or better.
24	-	B.Ed. (General Science)
		A)	Apart from the general entry requirement pre-service applicants must satisfy the following: The two ‘A' Level passes must be either in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, one of which at grade D or better and another at grade E or better. Candidates must also have obtained four (4) GCE ‘O' Level credit passes or better in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
		B)	Serving teachers who have at least five years teaching experience in Integrated Science and holders of Certificate in Education obtained from Universiti Brunei Darussalam or other equivalent qualifications will also be considered.
07	-	BA (Primary Education) The two ‘A' Level passes must be relevant to the BA Primary Education degree programme both at grade C or better. One of the ‘A' level passes must be an English medium subject .
35	-	Sarjana Muda Pendidikan Satu pengkhususan dipilih sama ada dari Pendidikan Bahasa Melayu, Pendidikan Jasmani atau Pendidikan Seni Lukis. Kedua-dua kelulusan di peringkat lanjutan (‘A' Level) mestilah gred C atau lebih baik dan subjek-subjek yang diperolehi mestilah berkaitan dengan program ini.
25	-	B.Ed. (Primary Education) (3 years full-time) This programme is conducted in English and /or Malay Language and intended for upgraders / in-service teachers only, with the following specialisations:
			Pendidikan Bahasa Melayu
			Science & Mathematics Education
			Teaching of English as a Second Language
			Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak
			Pendidikan Seni Lukis
			Pendidikan Jasmani
			Special Education
		Applicants must :
		(i)	have at least three years experience as a qualified teacher and hold at least one professional development certificate / diploma in the intended area of specialisation ;
		(ii)	have been teaching or working in the intended area of specialisation for three years within the last five years ; and,
		(iii)	have obtained at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE ‘O' Level Examination or a grade C in IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS score of 6.5 (obtained within the last 5 years) or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 for specialisation in Teaching of English as a Second Language, Science and Mathematics Education and Special Education.
			or have obtained at least a credit 6 in Bahasa Melayu at GCE 'O' Level Examination for specialisations in Pendidikan Bahasa Melayu, Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak, Pendidikan Seni Lukis and Pendidikan Jasmani.
			or have obtained a Certificate in Early Childhood Education / Sijil Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak for specialization in Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak or a Certificate in Special Education / Sijil Pendidikan Khas or have acquired a relevant and sufficient background experience for specialization in Special Education.
			Preference will be given to those who are actively involved in the intended area of specialisation in a school or the Ministry of Education.

Note:

All first degree Education programmes require an interview. To qualify for admission, applicants must be successful at the interview conducted by the University Admissions Committee.

2.6.2 Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies

21	-	Bachelor of Business Administration The two ‘A' Level passes must be either in Geography, History, Economics, Public Affairs, Mathematics, Accounting, Law, Sociology, Management of Business, English Literature or any science subjects, both at grade C or better and at least a credit 6 in Mathematics at GCE ‘O' Level Examination.
05	-	BA (Public Policy and Administration) The two ‘A' Level passes must be either in Geography, History, Economics, Public Affairs, Mathematics, Accounting, Law, Sociology, Management of Business, English Literature or any science subjects, both at grade C or better and at least a pass in Mathematics at GCE ‘O' Level Examination.
31	-	BA (Economics) The two ‘A' Level passes must be either in Geography, History, Economics, Public Affairs, Mathematics, Accounting, Law, Sociology, Management of Business, English Literature or any Science subjects, both at grade C or better, and at least a credit 6 in Mathematics at GCE ‘O' Level Examination.
41	-	BA (Accounting and Finance) The two ‘A' Level passes must include one of these subjects: Accounting, Economics or Mathematics at grade B or better and another 'A' Level pass either in Geography, History, Public Affairs, Law, Sociology, Management of Business, English Literature, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or any Science subjects at grade C or better; and at least a credit 6 in Mathematics at GCE 'O' Level Examination.

2.6.3 Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

BA Major in either Geography, History, Bahasa Melayu dan Linguistik, Kesusasteraan Melayu, Anthropology, Sociology or English Language Studies and one minor chosen either from Anthropology and Sociology, English Language Studies, Geography, History, Bahasa Melayu dan Linguistik, Kesusasteraan Melayu or South East Asian Studies. Students can also take a minor offered by other faculties such as Economics, Mathematics, Policy Studies, Brunei Studies and others. Three subjects are to be taken in the First Year. The Major and Minor combination will be determined at the end of the First Year. The two ‘A' Level passes must be at grade C or better (excluding Art) ; and for Malay-medium programmes, at least a credit 6 in Bahasa Melayu at GCE ‘O' Level and at least a pass in English Language at GCE ‘O' Level or at IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS score of 5.0 (obtained within the last 5 years) ; or for English-medium and Bilingual programmes, at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE ‘O' Level or a grade C in IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS score of 6.5 (obtained within the last 5 years) or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 .

2.6.4 Faculty of Science

11	-	B. Engineering in Electronics and Electrical Engineering a twinning programme with the University of Glasgow if qualified. The two ‘A' Level passes must be in Mathematics and Physics, both at grade C or better.
10	-	B. Sc. (Maths). The two ‘A' Level passes must be Mathematics and one in another Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry or Biology), both at grade C or better.
33	-	B. Sc. (Biological Science). The two ‘A' Level passes must be in Biology and one in another Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics), both at grade C or better.
34	-	B. Sc. (Biotechnology). a twinning programme with the University of Windsor if qualified. The three ‘A' Level passes must be in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, all at grade C or better.
37	-	B. Sc. (Chemistry). The two ‘A' Level passes must be in Chemistry and one in another Science subject (Physics, Biology or Mathematics), both at grade C or better.
38	-	B. Sc. (Applied Physics). The two ‘A' Level passes must be in Physics and one in another relevant subject, both at grade C or better.
39	-	B. Sc. (Computer Science). (with Maths minor, students have option to transfer to B. Sc. Computer Science programme at Strathclyde University or York University , if qualified). The two ‘A' Level passes must be in Mathematics and one in another relevant subject, both at grade C or better,
		or Three ‘A' Level passes must be in Computer Studies and one in another relevant subject, both at grade C or better, and a grade E or better in Mathematics.

2.6.5 Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Institute of Islamic Studies

28	-	Sarjana Muda Syariah Applicants must have obtained the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) or its equivalent with an average grade of “Jayyid” or two ‘A' level passes in Arabic medium subjects at grade C or better.

Note :

The medium of instruction for Programmes 26, 27 & 28 are the Arabic Language.

2.6.6 Academy of Brunei Studies

BA Major in Brunei Studies and one Minor chosen from any other subjects offered by the University. The two ‘A' Level passes must be at grade C or better (excluding Art).

2.2.7 Institute of Medicine (IM)

800	-	Bachelor of Health Science / Medicine ( 3 years full-time ) Students have the opportunity to graduate with an internationally recognized double degree. After three years, students will obtain a Bachelor of Health Science from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Successful students will then qualify to study for a further two to three years in Medicine and be awarded the MBBS or MD degree by one of UBD's partner medical schools in the United Kingdom , Canada or Australia
		Admission Requirements :
		(i)	Three 'A' Levels or its equivalent, with a minimum of three grade 'B ' in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics; OR
		(ii)	An International degree of first or upper second class honours in a relevant discipline recognized by the University Senate; OR
		(iii)	International Baccalaureate minimum score of 36. The 'A' Level qualifications or its equivalent must be obtained in two sittings within the last three years. Candidates satisfying the entry requirements will undergo a rigorous selection interview process called the Multiple Mini Interview. Admission is not guaranteed and will be competitive.
