MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN Assalamu ‘alaikum wa Rahamtullahi wa Barakatuh Welcome to the PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences website. Since its inauguration in September 2000, UBD’s PAP Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences has expanded beyond solely providing medical training. Graduate Programmes such as MSc in Primary Health Care, Master of Public Health, and Masters and PhD by Research as well as Undergraduate Programmes across four main disciplines – Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery are now offered. We ensure the Institute remains relevant and sensitive to the rapidly changing needs of the country. Our programmes are products of a continuous review of our curricula, and indeed, all our undergraduate programmes and diplomas have recently undergone major enhancements and are now also designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and for students to assume leadership roles, tempered with a keen awareness of the environment. The objective at UBD's PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences is to produce graduates armed with sharp analytical and methodological tools, together with adaptable skills that are driven by a positive outlook that they will need to become lifelong learners. Our students are therefore given early clinical and laboratory exposure in order to attain greater experience in the core clinical, biomedical, and scientific disciplines. Our emphasis in this regard is to instil greater inter-professional teamwork and communication skills; skills that are important for achieving and maintaining high quality and effective health care. The Institute also places heavy emphasis in the vital field of medical research; 3 research clusters are under this Institute, namely Cancer, Obesity and Ageing research cluster. All these exciting initiatives are part of the PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences's desire to be a major player in producing a new generation of health leaders who will one day become critical driving agents for advancements in medicine and health care.
