In addition to these programmes, the Faculty of Science also offers a B.Sc. programme in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Applied Physics and Geology and Petroleum Geology. Articulation programmes have been developed to offer a wider choice of degrees programmes - Electronic and Electrical Engineering in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, Biotechnology in collaboration with the University of Windsor, Canada, as well as Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering with University of New South Wales, Australia. The Electronic and Electrical Engineering was introduced in 1990, Biotechnology in 2005, Chemical Engineering in 2006 and Petroleum in 2008. Students spend either one or two years at UBD before transferring to the respective universities and the degrees are awarded by those universities.
The Department of Petroleum Geoscience has introduced B.Sc in Geology and Petroleum Geology Programme in 2007. This degree programme is an articulation with University of Aberdeen, in UK. The student will study first two years at UBD and the remaining two years at University of Aberdeen . A one-year full-time M.Sc. programme through coursework and a 4-month research project is a postgraduate programme offered by this department. Central to all undergraduate programmes in the Faculty is the recognition that learning at university-level should be more than mere compilation of facts; staffs therefore try to instil in students an enquiring mind and an appreciation of the scientific method through a variety of teaching styles. The Faculty aims to produce graduates who are not only well trained in their scientific and mathematical disciplines but who have also developed the intellectual curiosity to maintain a life-long interest in science.
Apart from its purely educational and training function, the Faculty of Science also seeks to contribute to the development of Brunei Darussalam by establishing links with government and private sector organisations in order to undertake research and consultancy work to promote development. Staffs in the Faculty have a wide range of expertise which is supported by an extensive suite of modern equipment, allowing sophisticated and elaborate research to be conducted.
