Beginning academic year 2005/2006, the Department of Public Policy and Administrations has introduced a postgraduate programme which introduces students to the fundamentals of contemporary health care policy and management practices. The Master of Health Policy and Management (MHPM) programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skill base to tackle the changing environment of policy, financing and management in national health systems and at the operational level. The body of knowledge covers the major areas of quality improvements in medical and health care, maintaining population health for social and economic development, promoting health and preventing disease, approaches to health care financing, information systems including evidence based health and medical care, and strategies for continually improving the health care workforce.
This programme is designed for staff from the Ministry of Health and health services with an interest in policy and management, particularly in the implementation of emerging strategic directions of the national health care plan, over the next ten years. It is also suitable for students completing undergraduate study at UBD in a wide range of fields who wish to specialize in a health care management and policy career.
