MASTER OR ARTS IN ECONOMICS (BY RESEARCH)

The Department of Economics has offered a Masters by research programme for the last 12 years. The Master of Arts in Economics (By Research) allows candidates to pursue original research on an approved topic with the aim of developing in-depth knowledge in a specialist area. Presently, the Master’s Programme is offered in the following areas of concentration or fields:

  • Development Economics
  • Labour Economics
  • Public Sector Economics
  • Islamic Economic
  • Natural Resource and Environmental Economics
This programme is based entirely on research and the presentation of a dissertation.  Candidates are required to conduct original research on a topic approved by the University and to present a thesis containing between 60,000 and 80,000 words. Normally, candidates selected for the Master’s Degree Programme by Dissertation will be mature students with relevant working experience who are able to conduct independent research.

MASTER OR ARTS IN ECONOMICS (BY COURSEWORK)

Beginning with the academic year 2005/2006, the Department of Economics has offered a postgraduate programme of study leading to the Master of Arts in Economics (By Coursework).

The Master of Arts in Economics (By Coursework) is designed to equip students with up to date tools and skills both in theory application and quantitative methods that are required by an economist working either in the private or public sector.
