The
university logo consists of seven elements arranged in seven
positions using seven colours.
In totality, together with the motto 'TOWARDS HUMAN PERFECTION",
it symbolizes the University's quest for excellence within the
context of the State of Brunei Darussalam which subscribes to
the concept of a monarchial Islamic Malay culture.
The foremost element is the Holy Quran in green binding, the
emblem of Islam as the official religion of the nation. Its open
pages facing upwards signify that the Holy Book represents an
infinite source of knowledge. The borders of those pages viewed
as steps of a ladder indicate the kind of systematic and incremental
effort needed to achieve any desired goal. The uppermost placing
of the Holy Quran further points to the role of Islam as the
supreme guide for all activities.
The second element, the name Universiti Brunei Darussalam, written
in black Jawi Script of the kufic type, overlaying a white background
reveals its identity. The white signifies integrity and purity.
Placed immediately beneath the shadow of the Holy Quran, it represents
the hope of obtaining direct guidance from Allah in its efforts
to reach its goals.
The third element consists of a nib of a pen employed in forming
the Jawi letters "ya, ba and dal", symbolizes that
the mastery of the skills of writing is essential for study,
for the development of knowledge and the operation of all other
efforts. Its yellow colour represents the sovereignty of Malay
Monarchy. Furthermore, the jawi script points to the emergence
of the Malay race activated by Islam since its arrival in this
region.
The fourth element is made up of a stylized blue circle formed
by the letters UBD and is emblematic of the University's desire
for the kind of progress needed to enable it to stand equal among
the nations of the world. The sea blue colour symbolizes the
inexhaustible expanse of divine knowledge. It is so vast that
human being cannot acquire all the knowledge.
The fifth element, the red emblem against a royal yellow background
is derived from the national flag and depicts the sovereignty
of a Malay monarchy. Its central position indicates the significance
of a nation upholding a system of values which encompasses mutual
relationships among its citizens and between the citizens and
His Majesty the Sultan as the defender and leader of the nation.
The sixth element comprises the stylized golden panicles of paddy
in the form of a lighted candle. It represents the hope for peace
and prosperity which is viewed as attainable only through learning
which leads to radiant living. The five shoots also represent
the five pillars of Islam.
The seventh element consists of the green moon crescent placed
beneath the other elements of the logo. It indicates that Islam
assumes the role of foundation and context for, as well as organizer
of a way of life. Within this context, the University's motto
'TOWARDS HUMAN PERFECTION' is to be realized.
Finally, the number 7 enshrines the recognition of the omniscience
and omnipotence of God. In HIM all knowledge resides.
